Consternation in the French Pyrenees: Palouma, one of the five Slovenian bears released in the wild this year, was found dead at the bottom of a cliff. Pro-bear activists suspect that she may have been deliberately driven to her death by opponents of the reintroduction. The anti-bear lobby blames the government for releasing the animals in an unfamiliar environment.
