Afraid to get lost? French buy 1.2 million GPS’s

Sales in GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment in France have quadrupled in one year. After buying 320.000 units in 2005, the French acquired no less than 1.2 million GPS’s this year. For next year, marketing analysts expect that figure to double again.

Average prices have gone down from 690 euros to 365 euros, with cheaper models starting at 200 euros, and high-end equipment reaching 2.000 euros.

The next phase will be the inclusion of GPS features in mobile phones. Nokia plans to release a GPS-enabled phone next year, other mobile makers are likely to follow suit.
