La Place de l’Etoile in Paris
From South Africa’s bloody riots to Ceausescu’s fall, from the Tien An Men massacre to Desert Storm, French photographer Patrick Durand has covered history-making events. After 16 years at the frontline, he now concentrates more on feature stories, from his base in Bangkok.
On his website, Durand exhibits a large collection of his work. One of the themes is “Vertical Cities“. In his own words:
As far as I can remember, I’ve always had two passions: Planes and Photography. Trying to combine them seemed to be a natural move. In general, cities are off-limits to low altitude flying. In this “forbidden territory” the photographer faces a real challenge: seizing the breathtaking geometry of landscapes seen in a purely vertical perspective.
