I don’t think this is a healthy development:
French gendarmes have begun training to use the controversial crowd control weapon, the Taser.
The gun fires two wires which penetrate clothing. They deliver 50,000 volts, which briefly paralyses the nervous system. Victims say it is like being hit by a heavyweight boxer, although the makers insist it’s not dangerous.
During training, officers have to suffer at least one shot so they know what it feels like.
Amnesty International claims that since 2001 more than 150 people in the United States have died after being shot by the Taser .
That’s bad enough, but this looks even worse:
Despite the controversy, the makers of the Taser are keen to win over the public. They’re launching a less-powerful model, for women, to fight off would-be attackers.
