Bikers Be Blessed. They Certainly Need it…

A priest blesses a bike, but the statistics are less of a blessing.

Thousands of motorbikers braved the bad weather for their annual August 15 blessing in [tag]Pocaro[/tag], Brittany.

The priest who led the celebrations, asked “Dear Lord, bless these objects that we present to you, they let us move in security, protected by the [tag]Madonna of the Motorbikers[/tag]“.

Bikers in France surely need some blessing. Last year, 769 of them were killed in road accidents. In 2005 there were even 881 deadly motorbike accidents. On top of those who didn’t survive, some 14,000 bikers were injured in accidents.

Another statistic that speaks volumes: motorbikes represent one percent of traffic in France, but account for 17 percent of fatalities.

I’m not sure the Madonna of the Motorbikers can do a lot to help them, but maybe most bikers just joined the meeting for the fun and for the rock concert.
