The times they are a-changing: Anne-Sophie Pic crowned “Chef of the year”

Earlier this year she became the first female chef in half a century to earn three Michelin stars, now she is also voted “Chef de l’année 2007” in a poll held among eight thousand (mostly male) chefs.

Anne-Sophie Pic, 37, who runs the kitchen in restaurant Maison Pic in Valence (south-east France), is no stranger to haute cuisine. Both her father and grandfather were Michelin-starred chefs, but Anne-Sophie considers herself autodidact.

Some of her creative concoctions are lobster with pies and liquorice (!), red mullet with grilled banana in Indian spices, and veal with lavender-flavored carrots.

Her first comment: “I thought being a woman was a handicap, but this professional recognition proves that attitudes are evolving.
