Catherine Ringer and Fred Chichin of Les Rita Mutsouko. Fred died yesterday aged 53.
You may never have heard of French band Les Rita Mutsouko, but France is pretty upset about the death of it’s co-founder Fred Chichin.
Fred Chichin, the guitarist who founded the popular French pop group duo Rita Mitsouko, died yesterday aged 53 of cancer.
Chichin, who formed the group in 1979 with his partner, singer Catherine Ringer, fell ill only two months ago. The group had had to cancel a string of recent concerts, including one on Wednesday evening at Paris’ famed Olympia concert hall.
Their first hit, the 1984 tune “Marcia baila”, was a latino-rock piece written to pay homage to Argentine dancer Marcia Moretto, who — ironically — died of cancer. It sold more than a million copies.
In tomorrow’s FrogTube I’ll include some videos of Les Rita Mutsouko.
