The French are ripped off — and accept it without protest
French price comparison site pricerunner.fr looked at the prices of 26 consumer goods in 29 towns across the world (22 in Europe) and came up with interesting figures.
For example, a can of Coca Cola costs 1.04€ in France, and the James Bond Casino Royal DVD 25.32€. In Germany, the same products cost 46 cents and 19.32€, respectively.
The popular Nokia N95 phone costs 669€ in France, 614€ in Greece, 579€ in Italy, and just 508€ in New York.
In the group of 29 locations, France comes in at 21st place.
There are two important reasons for the price differences. One: multinationals ask what they can get away with. Two: the concentration in French distribution channels has eliminated serious competition.
And nobody in France goes on strike against this sort of injustice.
