A follow-up on yesterday’s post about torched cars on New Year’s Eve:
The socialists (who else?) are accusing the government of cooking the figures — and this time they may be right.
It appears that the Interior Ministry, in their urge to produce flattering statistics, approached police and gendarme stations as early as 6AM(!) on New Year’s day to get the number of torched cars, although at that point the count was still ongoing.
In the case of Strasbourg, the government reported ‘only’ 20 incinerated cars, but later the local authorities upped the number to 51, which was more than the year before.
So much for a ‘relatively calm’ New Year’s Eve!
