During the weekend of 21-23 March the Surfrider Foundation Europe is calling on schoolchildren and other supporters to clean up beaches, lakes and rivers. It’s the 13th successive edition of the event named Oceans Initiatives. Last year they attracted around 10,000 participants, against 6,400 in 2006.
Ocean Initiatives offer each of us the opportunity to organise a local operation to protect the well-being of the planet. The goal is of course to clean up, but also to show to everyone (general public and authorities alike) that it is time to take action. Awareness raising will obviously focus on the problems of waste but also on the global ecological issue, climate change.
