France is getting a bit sloppy…

As if two uranium leaks in one week isn't enough to worry about, the French are now missing 28 kilos of Semtex, which were stolen from a depot of the Sécurité Civile (sic!) near Lyon.

    semtex1.jpg

Semtex is a powerful explosive favoured by terrorist groups as it is odourless and difficult to detect. The stolen quantity is enough to make 56 bombs the size of the one used in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, but I guess it also works nicely on a TGV or a subway carriage.

To make the job even easier for terrorists, detonators were also stored in the depot — and are missing too. Now we're all waiting for the Big Bang.

A couple of years ago, Roissy airport security police were training sniffer dogs, and planted a brikett of semtex in some guys luggage! But the traveller got through the check… and none of the security guys took note of the bag's description or destination. This was a news story at the time… but today, no news of the lost explosive… maybe the traveller put his case away in a cupboard, or maybe he found the stuff and threw it away, in which case the sweat will leave a trace in the luggage that a really well trained dog will sniff out… just hope for his sake that its not in some crazy place like Singapour or Washington!!
