Iggy Pops in French

Surprise surprise: the inventor of punk rock mellows, gets jazzy and plans to sing in French.

Iggy Pop, who is obsessed with sex, death and the end of the human race, has grown weary of a career as an entertainer and wishes for a new life. His next work will be “a quieter album, with some jazz overtones, because at one point, I just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars banging out crappy music“.

The album “Preliminaires” features a cover of the popular 1940s song “Les Feuilles Mortes” (‘Autumn Leaves’) in its original French language. Not necessarily because Pop is a francophile but because “the rights of the English adaptation were too expensive, so they told me ‘If you sing it in French, I think we don’t have to pay rights.’

The video clip doesn’t contain Pop’s French song, so we’ll have to wait for what it’s going to sound like. Listening to Pop’s accent it could be fun!

He already sang with Vanessa Paradis, our Iggy. And apart from sex, death and the apocalypse, he’s also obsessed with houseplants: http://www.123video.nl/playvideos.asp?MovieID=38202
