Serious crime never goes unpunished in France: 10-month sentence for man who hit his girlfriend and crunched her parrot

A 27-year-old man was tried for violence against his partner and acts of cruelty to animals. He had hit his girlfriend several times and threatened her with a knife before attacking a couple of lovebirds. He twisted the neck of the first parrot and literally decapitated the second with his teeth. His defense was weak, blaming the cat for the beheading, but that didn’t fool the president of the court. “We see horrific acts in some audiences, but this is beyond comprehension,” exclaimed the magistrate. Verdict: 10 months (5 suspended) in prison.
