French smoke censor strikes again!
The French advertising industry is really scared of anti-smoking laws. After de-smoking Jacques Tati, they've now robbed French actor Alain Delon of his cigarette:
The poster for Dior's "Eau Sauvage" perfume uses a 1966 portrait of a young Alain Delon (left), with a cigarette between his fingers. In accordance with the law the clope has been photoshopped away on the poster. The cigarette would have been legal if perfume was a cultural object, and if Delon was dead. But since Dior is big business and Delon is alive and kicking, using the original photo would have landed the advertiser in court.
