Dabadabada - Un homme et une femme

Only a few films in history are as well known for their theatrical content as for their musical score. The 1966 movie A Man and a Woman (French: Un homme et une femme) is one of them.

un homme et une femme poster-120.jpgThe film, directed by Claude Lelouch, stars Jean-Louis Trintignant and Anouk Aimée, and won two Academy Awards. It’s the story of two widowed people who become close friends, but can’t become lovers because, for the woman, her husband’s memory is still too strong.

The memorable musical score of the movie is by Francis Lai. The samba song in this film “Samba Saravah” is a French version of the Brazilian song “Samba da Bençao” - written by Baden Powell with original lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes. The French lyrics were written by Francis Lai, and the movie version was sung by Pierre Barouh.

The film’s title song has been covered by many other artists, and is often referred to as “Dabadabada”. Listen to the tracks below and you’ll find out why.
