Gradually, all French rock stars from the sixties have become sixty-somethings themselves. Today, Jacques Dutronc turns 65.

Jacques Dutronc (born April 28, 1943 in Paris) is a French singer, composer, and actor. He is married to the singer Françoise Hardy, and their son Thomas is today a celebrated jazz guitarist.

In the early sixties, Dutronc played guitar in several bands, and wrote songs for other artists. In 1966 he released his first single (”Et moi, et moi, et moi”), which turned him into a star. Many hits followed, but the biggest success of all was “Il est cinq heures, Paris s’eveille”, with the classical flute player Roger Bourdin performing an essential part. In this song, Dutronc paints an evocative portrait of the French capital in the early morning hours. Below is a 1974 rendition of this 1968 hit. And it still sounds as fresh as when I first heard it, forty years ago.
