Skull Tourism
National Geographic posted this beautiful photo taken in Les Catacombes de Paris:
Like macabre masonry, human skulls and other bones line the walls of the Catacombs of Paris. The tourist attraction officially reopened on May 1 after a three-month renovation.Beginning in the late 1700s the French capital began removing human remains from overcrowded, unsanitary cemeteries.
Millions of Parisians’ remains were transferred to abandoned mines on the outskirts of the city, where the bones were arrayed in often fanciful patterns, such as hearts or crosses.
