The French Are Drowning In Their Hundreds
According to the latest figures, the French drown in large numbers.
In 2006 (the 2007 figures are not known yet), over 400 French drowned, and 800 could be saved just in time.
Despite awareness campaigns and compulsory swimming pool security systems, the numbers are up from previous years, and children are the main victims — 38 of those who died were under six years old.
Most drownings (151) took place in the sea, but 55 French drowned in private swimming pools, including 21 children.
