The wired candidate. Who was whispering in her ear? And what was said?
After the debate between French presidential candidates Nicolas Sarkozy and Segolene Royal, some bloggers and commentators mentioned that Royal had something strange hanging in her hair.
Now that the video of the debate is on the web, it’s clear what they saw: Royal was wired!
The wire, hanging from her right ear, became only visible in the last few minutes, when she looked directly into the camera. After a minute or so, Royal slightly turned her head sideways, so the wire became less visible.
So, what does this mean? Nobody knows who was at the other end of the line, but it must have been one of Royal’s advisers. And it will forever be a mystery what he whispered in her ear. But it makes you think what sort of candidate Royal is – and what sort of president she would be. Can’t she speak for herself? Does she need a backup when she discusses facts and policies?
