This picture (found on Vintage Photo) shows French actress Polaire (née Emilie Marie Bouchaud, 1879-1939) during an American tour in the summer of 1910. The black footman she acquired during the trip was provocatively called her “black slave”.

Polaire was mostly known for her wasp waist:
Her corseted waist was sometimes reported to have a circumference no greater than 14 inches (35.6 centimeters). This accentuated her large bust, which was said to measure 38 inches (96.5 centimeters). She stood 5 feet and 3 inches (1.60 meters) tall.
Polaire was famous for her then scandalous lesbian affairs, including with writer Colette.
