The Genetic Map of Europe
Biologists have constructed a genetic map of Europe showing the degree of relatedness between its various populations.

Without surprise, the study shows that the French are very much a cocktail of Northern-Spanish, Southern-German, Swiss, and a drop of Northern-Italian blood. What I never knew was the Austrian influence. And where do the Celts in Normandy and Brittany come from?

Thanks Jen. But why doesn't that show on the map - or am I just misreading the map?
Find out what's new!

Celts in Brittany came from Britain (in Roman times, during the wars between the emperors) … hence Bretagne (Little Britain, as compared to Great Britain)
The "Brittany" peninsula came to be settled with Britons from Britain during the poorly documented period of the 5th-7th centuries.[5] These settlers, whether refugees or not, made their presence felt in the naming of the westernmost, Atlantic-facing provinces of Armorica, Cornouaille ("Cornwall") and Domnonea ("Devon"). These settlements are associated with leaders like Saints Samson of Dol and Pol Aurelian, among the "founder saints" of Brittany.
