The body that controls .fr domain names reports their one-and-a-half-millionth allocation. The number of .fr domains has gone up by 25% between 2008 and 2009.
Still, even today, French companies prefer .com domains, which take up 47.2% of the market vs. 29.2% for .fr domains. Other domain types remain marginal: .net (7,7%), .eu (5,5%), .org (5,2%), .info (3,6%) and .biz (1,4%).
The lucky 1.5 millionth .fr site is lessecouesduvocal.fr, which promotes the activities of a group of musical and theatrical artists.
