The Musée Testut-Latarjet in Lyon is dedicated to medical history and anatomy. A photoset on Flickr shows some of the gruesome museum displays, including illustrated books that taught aspiring medics what lives under the human skin.

I particularly like this image, which actually looks like a living person posing for the illustrator (look at the eyes), while invisible assistants hold body parts in place for a better view.
