Legless and unarmed, but ready to swim across the Channel

Courageous or irresponsible? Frenchman without limbs wants to show that life with disabilities isn’t just suffering

Sixteen years ago Philip Croizon tried to install a TV aerial on his roof but hit a 20,000 volt cable — twice. The first shock killed him, the second brought him back to life. After two months he woke up from his coma as a quadruple amputee, but decided to live on. Now he’s 42 years old and training every day for a unique challenge: crossing the English Channel swimming, with just a floating device. The attempt is scheduled for September, and it may take him more than 24 hours to cover the 50 km (33 miles) distance. Good luck to him!
